Getting Started with Dani Salzer

Beginning therapy doesn't have to be an intimidating experience. Browse some commonly asked questions below.

What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Counseling?

Counseling is usually short term and focuses on a particular problem and steps to address this problem. Psychotherapy delves into deeper issues including traumatic memories, re-occurring patterns and the unconscious and psychotherapy often taps into insight and self-understanding. Both help people make changes from within themselves and their lives. Often these two terms are used interchangeably and in actual practice there is a great deal of overlap. As a licensed marriage family therapist, I'm a psychotherapist who also incorporates counseling depending on your specific needs and treatment goals.

What are your specialties?

I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families struggling with the following issues. I welcome individuals and families with non-traditional structures and the LGBTQ Community.

  • Stress, Anxiety, and Panic
  • Grief and Loss
  • Maternal Mental Health
  • Prenatal and Postpartum Anxiety and Depression
  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Relationship and Couples Issues (Communication issues, Divorce, Intimacy and Trust)
  • Family Life Transitions (Navigating newborn, toddler, teen, and empty nest)
  • Illness, caretaking and loss.

What are the fees for therapy? Will you work with my insurance?

I see clients for $225 per 50-minute individual therapy sessions and $275 for couples therapy. For clients with insurance PPOs, I provide super-bills. If there are financial concerns/hardship, please be in touch as I have a limited number of sliding scale appointments.

Do you take insurance?

It is recommended that you check with your insurance company prior to receiving treatment in order to determine to what degree treatment fees will be reimbursed for a Marriage Family Therapist, out-of network. PPO’s and POS plans often reimburse for services while HMO’s usually require you to choose someone on their provider list. I’m happy to provide you with a superbill for treatment received that you can submit to your insurance company.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy depends your needs and goals. Often clients report feeling better within a few sessions, though deep growth and change usually come with time and effort. Each session will always be geared towards what you need at each moment.
