Hello! My name is Dani Salzer, and I'm a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) in Los Gatos, CA specializing in maternal mental health, new and expecting familiesgrief and loss, relational struggles, and depression and anxiety. As a therapist, I help my clients to cope with adversity, trauma and loss so that they can lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. I’m deeply committed to my work as a therapist and would be honored to support you on your journey of healing and growth.

Therapeutic approach

I’m warm, compassionate, and creative and tailor the therapeutic interventions to meet client’s specific needs. My training and work at Hospice of the Valley, taught me how to be present with clients during their most painful times. I provide a gentle and accepting presence that encourages you to process painful feelings and experiences and move toward healing and growth. My work as a therapist is based on humanistic theory (and research in positive psychology), believing in the unique potential and innate mental health within each individual. I support you in connecting with your most authentic core self— the you that is calm, capable, compassionate and creative. My approach is interactive and experiential. I incorporate mindfulness, expressive arts and psychodrama to increase self-awareness, reduce stress and foster self-acceptance. I support clients in exploring and challenging the unhealthy thoughts that lead to low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.

In therapy, you will learn how to communicate your needs to others, gain clarity about your values and life path, and become more comfortable with your self. As you progress in therapy, you will find the confidence to reach for your goals and live your best life.

Education and Experience

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and an emphasis in family and couples therapy. My post-graduate training includes grief and loss, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, and psychodrama. As an undergraduate, I attended New York University and Goucher College and then earned my first Masters Degree in Theatre from Indiana University, Bloomington. Before beginning my career as a therapist, I spent over 12 years as a theater teacher and director. Through this, I discovered my passion for supporting people to be creative, spontaneous, and confident in themselves.

I’m passionate about working in women’s wellness and maternal mental health and specialize in trauma and grief and loss. I have loved my work with clients at Family Tree Wellness for the last 6 years specializing in these areas and utilizing EMDR, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing to support client in healing. I’m currently support therapist associates in this work and am a clinical supervisor for MFT and LCSW associates at Family Tree Wellness.

My early experience providing therapy at the YWCA Counseling Center in Silicon Valley ignited my passion to work with women and families in transition, couples struggling with parenting issues and LGBTQ adults and adolescents exploring relationships and identity. I continued supporting families and individuals with depression and anxiety at Santa Clara County Family and Child Behavioral Health in Sunnyvale, CA where I was able to explore a strength-based wellness and recovery model to help families discover their strengths and inner resources. Before starting my private practice, I provided therapy at Hospice of the Valley to clients grieving the loss of loved ones- children, partners and parents. There I was transformed by this heart and soul work, as I supported clients in healing through times of loss, bereavement and trauma.

I truly love what I do, and I'd love to hear more of your story and what you're hoping to gain from therapy. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me using the contact information below!
